The Somalia Death Penalty Report 2025 is the second edition of a series published by the Legal Archives Center. The report documents death penalty cases, judicial practices, and related legal developments in Somalia, drawing on primary and secondary sources, including court records, observations of judicial proceedings, official statements, media reports, and information from affected families and communities where formal records are unavailable.
The report contributes to the documentation and analysis of capital punishment in Somalia by bringing together relevant information on cases, legal procedures, and developments in judicial practice. It also responds to the broader need for reliable documentation to support the assessment of progress and the impact of legal and institutional measures.
In this regard, Somalia’s national report for the Fourth Cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), submitted in October 2026, identifies challenges in data collection and monitoring as factors affecting the measurement of progress and impact. By compiling information from diverse sources, the Somalia Death Penalty Report 2025 seeks to contribute to the available body of knowledge, strengthen research and legal analysis, and promote informed public understanding of capital punishment and its administration in Somalia.
